My Big Brown Bread Blunder...Boo!

Cody and I LOVE whole wheat hearty BREAD. And especially after going 3 weeks plus without any whole grains at all, we felt like dying and going to heaven when we ate our first whole wheat bread. I am filled with pure love every time I just think of the hearty whole wheat goodness. Furthermore, everybody knows there is nothing like hot home-made bread steaming from the oven, with a crispy crunchy crust and a soft fluffy inside.

I said to myself, "what could I do to make Cody LOVE me even more" And I just knew it would be to make some whole wheat HOME-MADE bread.

Of course, this is a challenge for me because bread has YEAST. And yeast hates ME.

But this bread, my first 4 loaves, {ya this recipe made 4 loaves of bread}
it turned out PERFECT.

Except for just one thing
I made it with whole wheat RANCID flour.
9 cups of it.
And I didn't figure it out until half way through the long process, that whole wheat flour REAKS when it's gone bad.
BOO HOO.

Cody was so excited when he got home to the smell of hot, fresh, whole wheat...bread.
And I could not be more distraught to tell him that it was all NASTY.
Nobody even knows what happens when you eat rancid bread made with rancid flour.

Cody! Don't eat it!
so sad

Cody's idea was to go feed the ducks {one of his most favorite childhood memories I learned} and I thought it was great until I had a vision of a little pond full of, dead ducks.

Goodbye bread

But, I must add, the bread turned out AMAZING besides the fact that it tasted so bad. And so, I can't stop thinking about what a batch of non-racid bread will be like. I will not sleep until I have perfected it.
Ok so maybe I'll sleep. But come Sunday, I will master it. And this time, I might just ground my own whole wheat flour.

Step aside, little red hen.

  2. this is terrible!!! Just last week, I made magnificent Banana Bread. I was sooooo excited. As was Austin... then I tasted it and realized that the Sour cream I used was ULTRA sour. totally rotten. It hurt to throw those goodnesses away. I can FEEL your pain. But on the good side of things... it was good practice and they looked GREAT!
